MODEL AND REGIONAL GUIDE

Does iPhone 8 or 8 Plus support eSIM?

No. Neither iPhone 8 nor iPhone 8 Plus supports eSIM. Both use a physical nano-SIM, so a digital travel plan cannot be installed on either model.

Do not confuse iPhone 8 with iPhone SE

The iPhone SE generations have a separate compatibility answer. A similar-looking phone with a Home button is not enough to identify it: check Settings → General → About for the full model name.

The useful next step is a physical connection option

Ask your original carrier whether the phone is unlocked and compare a physical nano-SIM with its roaming package. If you keep your home SIM installed, a portable hotspot is another way to get data over Wi-Fi.

A missing Add eSIM button is expected on iPhone 8. Resetting network settings, scanning more QR codes or paying for another eSIM will not change that hardware limitation.

Questions about iPhone 8

Does iPhone 8 Plus support eSIM?

No. The screen size and Plus name do not change SIM support. Both iPhone 8 models need a physical nano-SIM.

Which similar-looking iPhone should I check separately?

Check the exact generation of iPhone SE. The first generation does not support eSIM; the second and third generations do in supported markets.

EXACT MODEL EVIDENCE

Check the version you own

Compare the full model and A-number or SM-number where listed. The phone’s original market can differ from the shop where you bought it or the country you are visiting.

Choose a connection this phone can use

A physical nano-SIM, an existing carrier’s roaming service or a portable Wi-Fi hotspot can be alternatives. Ask the original carrier about unlocking before using another carrier’s physical SIM. Check destination coverage and device acceptance before purchasing.

These records use manufacturer documents, with no remote inspection or hands-on activation testing. Read how the compatibility checker works.
