The US version has no physical-SIM fallback
Apple’s US iPhone 14 models use eSIM without a physical SIM tray. For a trip, arrange a supported eSIM or your carrier’s roaming service before relying on buying a plastic SIM at the airport.
Other supported-market iPhone 14 versions can have a nano-SIM tray alongside eSIM. A visible tray therefore does not by itself mean the phone lacks eSIM.
Check imported versions before choosing a provider
The physical-only versions sold in China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao are a different case from the US eSIM-only model. Use the A-number in Settings, not the seller’s location, to identify an imported or refurbished phone.
Supported versions can use two active eSIMs, which is useful when both your home and travel lines are digital. Your mobile-data selection still determines which plan supplies internet access.
Questions about iPhone 14
Do iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max support eSIM?
Yes, in supported markets. Their US versions are eSIM-only. Versions sold in China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao use physical SIMs and do not support eSIM.
Can I put a physical travel SIM in a US iPhone 14?
The US models do not have a physical SIM tray. Choose a supported eSIM or an appropriate roaming service instead.
Does an iPhone 14 with a SIM tray still support eSIM?
It can. Some markets have nano-SIM plus eSIM, while the China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao versions are physical-only. Check the exact version.

Purchase-market rules apply. The phone must also be carrier-unlocked for an unrelated travel provider.
Model numbers in the sourced record: A2649, A2881, A2884, A2883, A2882.
Open Settings → General → About. Tap Model Number for the A-number. Under Carrier Lock, “No SIM restrictions” is Apple’s unlocked indication. Look under Cellular or Mobile Data for Add eSIM.
An EID indicates eSIM hardware. It does not prove the phone is unlocked, that every provider will accept it or that a plan includes coverage at your destination. Do not send us your IMEI, EID or account details.
