USB-C does not identify the SIM configuration
All four iPhone 15 names need the same original-market check. The charging connector tells you nothing about whether this particular phone has eSIM, a nano-SIM tray or two physical-SIM slots.
For example, the iPhone 15 A3092 is the physical-only regional variant in our sourced record. Pro, Plus and Pro Max use their own A-numbers, listed below.
Choose a travel setup that matches the version
A US iPhone 15 needs an eSIM or an existing carrier’s roaming service because it has no nano-SIM tray. A supported version with a tray offers a physical-SIM alternative. Supported versions can also keep two eSIMs active.
Once the hardware and unlock checks pass, compare plans for the destination and trip length. The original purchase country answers the device question; it is not the country where you want mobile data.
Questions about iPhone 15
Do iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support eSIM?
Yes, in supported markets. US versions are eSIM-only; China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao versions are physical-only. Pro and Plus names do not change the original-market check.
How many eSIMs can iPhone 15 have?
A supported iPhone 15 can store eight or more eSIM profiles, with two eSIMs active at once. Stored profiles do not all run together, and only one line supplies cellular data at a time. Physical-only regional versions do not have this capability.
Is an imported iPhone 15 automatically eSIM compatible?
No. Identify its original market and A-number. A phone sold by a local importer may still be a physical-only regional version.
Does a US iPhone 15 need to be unlocked for a different travel provider?
Yes, when using a different carrier it must meet Apple’s unlocking requirement and the provider’s own device rules. eSIM-only does not mean carrier-unlocked.
The model records on this page retain their own regional and hardware evidence. Compatibility is documented from manufacturer sources. This does not represent hands-on activation testing.
EXACT MODEL EVIDENCE
Check the version you own
Compare the full model and A-number or SM-number where listed. The phone’s original market can differ from the shop where you bought it or the country you are visiting.

Check region or variant
Purchase-market rules apply. The phone must also be carrier-unlocked for an unrelated travel provider.
Model numbers in the sourced record: A2846, A3089, A3092, A3090.
Open Settings → General → About. Tap Model Number for the A-number. Under Carrier Lock, “No SIM restrictions” is Apple’s unlocked indication. Look under Cellular or Mobile Data for Add eSIM.
An EID indicates eSIM hardware. It does not prove the phone is unlocked, that every provider will accept it or that a plan includes coverage at your destination. Do not send us your IMEI, EID or account details.
